Experiment and You'll See!

Approximately 40% of the papers received by the World Rabbit Science journal are rejected, often due to deficient experimental design regarding structure and size. It has been observed that many university-level statistics courses tend to focus solely on the analysis of data once collected. Students are typically provided with clean datasets from previous studies to practice statistical analysis but receive little or no training in experiment design, which is crucial for optimizing resources and obtaining relevant and meaningful results.

To address these shortcomings, we offer a PRE-CONGRESS FREE COURSE that delves into the fundamental principles of experimental design and determining appropriate sample sizes for meaningful statistical analysis.

Throughout this course, we will explore key concepts and methodologies involved in experimental design, including variable identification, hypothesis formulation, and selection of appropriate experimental designs. Additionally, we will examine the intricacies of sample size determination, considering factors such as statistical power, desired confidence levels, and effect sizes.

Please consider that there are limited spaces available. You can apply for a free registration to attend the PRE-CONGRESS COURSE when completing your registration to the WRC 2024 through the online registration form.

Deadline: 28th June 2024.

Applicants will be notified by July 23rd 2024.

Course Content

  • Main reasons for manuscript rejection and tips to avoid it (Professor J.J. Pascual, editor in-chief of the World Rabbit Science Journal).
  • Why experiment?
  • Observation versus experimentation
  • ABC of experimentation: response variables, factors, levels, types of effects, types of designs
  • Designing experiments with a single factor: randomization and blocking
  • Designing factorial experiments with multiple factors: avoiding the pitfalls of the COST approach and understanding the importance of interactions
  • Determining sample size

Students will receive a certificate of attendance issued by The World Rabbit Science Association.
